The Beaujolais area is not only reputed world wide for its wines and food but also for the diversity and beauty of its landscapes. On foot, by horseback, by bike and in your own time, choose to discover it on a family outing or as part of a sporting activity. The roads that meander through the Beaujolais area will take you either to the beautiful villages of the area known as Pierres dorées’ (the golden stones) or the ‘Beaujolais Vert’ (green Beaujolais) with numerous lakes and forests.

If you choose to go south via the Val de Saône (following the river Saône), you’ll arrive in the gastronomic capital of  Lyon: the old town is listed by Unesco for its rich historical heritage.

Perched high, overlooking the vines, the village of  Vaux en Beaujolais  was made famous by Gabriel Chevalier who, inspired by the daily life of the people wrote his best selling novel here: ‘Clochemerle’, hence the second name of the village.

The pôle Oeno-Touristique helps you to discover or rediscover today the story of the novel while wandering through the village. You can see the famous urinal and mechanical theatre, the museum dedicated to the author Gabriel Chevallier  and the Clochemerle wine bar  (‘la cave’ or ‘caveau’).
